
Julie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18 in 2000) is an American actress and singer. Her career spanned more 40 years. London was a torch performer famous for her smooth, mellow vocals and languid contralto voice and recorded more than 30 albums of jazz and pop standards between 1955 and 1969. The album she released as her debut "Cry Me a River", which she recorded, was inducted into The Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for her role in the role of Dixie McCall, a nurse on Emergency! London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her acting career began as an actress while she was an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's career as an actor of 35 years began with film in 1944. It included parts in the lead female in several westerns. In the mid-50s, she signed a recording deal with Liberty Records. This was the beginning of her professional music career. The album she recorded her final studio album released in the year 1969. She continued her success as the female star role in the role of Dixie McCall on the television series Emergency! (1972-1979) In the show, she played alongside her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband also produced the show.
