Lucy Liu was born in the US. Liu is an American singer, actress and voice-over artist. An attractive, clever and skilled actress, she is an inspiration to Asian actors who are aspiring to be big stars in Hollywood. The actress gained notoriety after a number of popular early characters in television series. For instance, in the Ally McBeal series, where she portrayed Ling Woo the villainous character. The actress translated her sudden success into big screen roles in films including Shanghai Noon and Charlie's Angels. The actress then gave an outstanding performance as Japanese criminal O'Ren Ishii, in Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill Volume 1. In the same period she was also in box-office failures including Rise: Blood Hunter. In later years, she worked as an actor in voice for animated movies, such as Kung Fu Panda. Small screen roles such as Mia Mason in Cashmere Mafia did not yield results. Southland was a highly acclaimed police drama that Liu starred frequently and allowed her to be a an internationally acclaimed as an actress. Liu chooses her roles carefully so that she doesn't get stereotyped in a field which is extremely competitive. While she's very proud of her ethnicity however, she is not letting the fact that she is from China limit her creative abilities.
